Financial Literacy

6/11/2055

For maths this week we had to design the ideal family that we wanted in 30 years which was fun but then no one knew this was coming! After we had designed our ideal expensive life we got given a card that told us our wage or annual salary. Luckily I chose a cheap simple life and got a really good salary of $54,400 that is over $1,000 a week. You also had to choose if you were single married or in a relationship, how many kids you had and their names and ages, a car or more of choice and pets you would have.

Here was my life:

I was single

I had no kids

I have a Toyota Hilux that runs on diesel

And two dogs both mongrels* (*no breed)

Next week we are going to be using this for financial literacy. We will be given grocery bills to add up, electricity bills etc that we will have to budget for our of our wages as well as fortune cards that could give us money or be a bill. I wonder how much money I will have left at the end of a month? I will keep you posted.

After one month of bills I am in debt by $747.94

It is all because of these things: My fortune card left me with -$6.14 as I got a rates bill for my house.

I thought I was doing ok until I got my end of the month bills:

Out came the insurance $108.40

the sky tv $54.00

than vehchile $232.60

and now the phone/internet $112.40

finally electricity $234.40

that added to make my bank balance -747.94.

this is way diffrent to our house we are not rich but we dont spend much on internet and we make our own power and water and we do not get skytv so no bill there and this was my work.

  1. Wow Marlin that sounds like such a cool activity! I like the way that you took your experience from the activity and linked it to your own real life. Was it a surprise for you when you saw how paying bills affects your money?
